Private home care in Milton Combe, Yelverton - Dan

Dan - private home care in Milton Combe, Yelverton.png

Milton Combe, Yelverton

Tell us about you! My hobbies and interests revolve around my garage, building and riding motorcycles primarily but also metal work. I enjoy welding and fabrication and spend time making garden and household items, from gates to beds and anything else that takes my interest. Currently I am building a 1979 MZ motorcycle, modified to my taste.

I'm a practical person and turn my hand to most things, I have done bits of building work, woodwork, plumbing and electrical work, always willing to learn a new skill.

I recently had the opportunity to travel for a few months, teaching English, working on a farm, living in small communities and absorbing new cultures. I have many interests, the main challenge seems to be finding time for them all!

About 4 years ago I accidentally applied for a carer's job, (pressing the wrong button on my pc,) and decided to investigate it. I ended up loving working with people with learning difficulties and some physical challenges, we enjoyed each other's company and it didn't feel like work.

I had worked in a residential setting and also in the community, supporting people to live as independently as possible; this was my full time role.

I left to go travelling for a few months and on return decided I would like to continue in care but not full time, I like the idea of using some of my other skills and so being self employed gives me that opportunity; some care work, some gardening work, some odd job work and the possibility of anything else.

Whilst working for my previous employer I attended all the training courses provided, many of which I had previously attended for other employers as a tutor for challenging young people.

I like the idea of using more of my skills and working with you can help me achieve that.

Availability: I'm quite flexible but am not available every weekend.

Hetton-le-Hole

Tell us about you! I love to travel, read and shop and I love going for walks with my pet dog Lincoln. I enjoy travelling to different parts of the dales and country side to walk him. I love to help people, given the job I’m currently doing this is something I do on a daily basis. I meet people from all walks of life with a tale to tell and I can listen to particularly elderly people telling me stories from yesteryear all day! It’s rewarding that I have been an ear for someone to talk to. Oh and coffee, I love coffee!

My dad had a stroke 4 years ago, he was 60 at the time and very fit and healthy so it was a huge shock. He had paralysis on his left side but he never gave up and now is able to walk. I have 3 brothers and between us and mum we make sure he still gets about and help with shopping and just general things.

He can do a lot himself but now he doesn’t drive we get the groceries so mum doesn’t have that to do. The reason I want to help people is I seeing how much it means to help someone and a family. It’s extremely rewarding that you have made someone’s life that little easier.

Live in care in Keighley - Trish

Lynne - private home care in Lancaster.png

Keighley

Tell us about you! I have 4 cats and a collie. I enjoy animals, walking and going to the lakes. I like to swim when I get the chance, love movies but I don’t watch normal TV, only box sets of series.

I have worked in care now for 28 years. I've worked in some great homes and worked with some brilliant people. I have learnt a lot from every single new resident / client I have cared for. No two people are the same. For me it’s always been the needs of my clients that is important.

I now work primarily as a live-in pa/carer. I cover respite mainly. I enjoy this as I get to see all different types of people who have different needs. It is all about learning something new from each client, their condition or just personality. I have found over the years people do not like change but are open to new ideas, but not when the ideas are forced upon them. What could be good for one person may not suit another and I have learnt this by listening to what people want/need, and not what other people think they want or need.

There are some areas I have worked more than others, personal care and palliative/end of life care are where I have worked the most. I have worked with dementia and EMI. I have worked as a live-in carer for people in their own homes, I enjoyed this working in different homes every week travelling all over the country. seeing how other counties care.

I have completed the following training during 2019:

End of life level 3
First aid awareness
Dementia care
Equality, Diversity
Health and safety
Infection Prevention
Safeguarding venerable adults

Tell us about you! I enjoy gardening, reading, cycling and a lot of dog walking! I have two sons aged 23 and 25 and I’m lucky that they still like to spend time with me. I enjoy days out with them and their girlfriends and cooking meals/ barbecues for them at weekends. I consider myself a very friendly and sociable person and I relish time spent with friends and extended family.

I’m 52 years old and have spent all my working life in office jobs. In particular, I was Risk and Insurance Manager at Lancaster Town Hall.

However, I’m really hoping for a complete lifestyle change as I go ‘semi-retired’. I’d love a more rewarding job; helping and supporting others.

I’m a very caring and compassionate person and I enjoy looking after people. Being a mum of two sons has been great and that has certainly given me plenty of experience in providing care with plenty of patience!

Also, my parents are both in their eighties and they have needed a lot of support recently- particularly with household tasks such as shopping.

I have a full, clean driving license and own a car (a people carrier).
