Ashford in the Water
Always busy never bored, my life pretty much revolves around family, close friends and work.
I'm truly grateful for the fact that I live in such a beautiful area where I am able to just walk miles every day.
Our run down home was purchased here just over three years ago and is an ongoing project. I love rummaging in antique and charity shops in my spare time for items of interest or to recycle or restore.
I enjoy cooking, cleaning, reading, balanced with meditation.
I have practical experience of caring. For a short while I worked as a passenger assistant escorting young people living with varying conditions.
Working in the voluntary sector it was also a privilege to have worked alongside many volunteers, a good proportion older often lonely, likewise people of all ages with a range of disabilities both hidden and recognised.
I had my first experience of true caring at just 23 for nearly three years taking care of my mother who sadly died of cancer. I have since cared for a number of family members both through illness and end of life including my two wonderful mother-in-laws and my grandfather who lived to be 100.
I spent around eighteen months before I moved working at Blythe House Hospice initially as a volunteer although in a catering capacity.
Food too plays a huge part in the well-being of someone who is unwell. I became very aware at Blythe of some of the amazing hidden support that is often difficult to source for both an individual who is living with a condition and their families too.
On a personal level I have in the past experienced the knock on effect of caring for someone without support. Understand how this can affect complete families and the importance of kind and compassionate support and care when most needed.
