Tell us about you:

I have over 8 years’ of experience working with and supporting individuals with an array of complexities and abilities. I have worked for over 7 years with people with Learning Disabilities and individuals with Autism.

Over my career I have worked in a variety of settings such as mental health wards, in a drug rehabilitation centre and in a hospital for people with learning disabilities who have had a mental health breakdown.

I would rate my interpersonal skills high; I believe this because of the various roles I have had where I have worked and supported people with a combination of complexities over my career.

I have a lot of first-hand experience working with people 1:1. I worked for four years 1:1 with individuals who are living with Autism as well as a Learning Disability. This involved managing challenging behaviours such as aggression, smearing, violence, etc and working around sensory management.

It also involved supporting them to increase their independence and improve their quality of life; by working on social tolerance, social skills as well as life skills and managing their emotions and behaviours. I was trained to use Positive Behaviour Support strategies which is a person-centred approach to challenging behaviour and to avoid physically handling clients; I am a big advocate of this approach.

I am interested in Art and I love the outdoors and being active. I am currently studying a Masters in Art Therapy. I am great at empowering individuals by offering choice (whether this is big or small) and I am great at helping individuals develop skills and achieve goals; by breaking these down into smaller more manageable goals.

I am great at listening and regard myself as very honest and empathetic.
