Private home care in Worthing - Amy

Worthing

Tell us about you!

I have always enjoyed working in healthcare as I truly care about every client I get the privilege of working with. I enjoy spending time doing arts and crafts with clients and digging deep into their past so I can get to know them. I aspire to not only be their ‘carer’ but a friend, and a companion who they can confide in. It’s truly my passion and I will forever love what I do.

I also enjoy studying psychology, the human mind fascinates me.

In my free time I make jewellery on the side as a little business and care for my son, who is now 2 years old. I love the fresh air, and getting creative with my boy.

I am currently 22 years old and live in a gorgeous little flat on the seafront in Worthing. I am incredibly lucky, and life is perfect to me when caring for people, as well as doing my jewellery making.

I have 4 + years’ experience in healthcare. I have worked firstly in a nursing home with people living with a wide range of illnesses and disabilities. I worked alongside nurses and learnt a lot in my time there.

I have worked in a mental health home with adults 18+ all living with mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and depression. My time there was extremely eye opening and I have become so much more aware of non verbal communication and change in body language, which is incredibly important too when working with people living with dementia. In this time I also experienced being a dedicated keyworker to two ladies, which I enjoyed very much. We would go out into the community a lot which was lovely for them. I would assist them with meals, laundry and cleaning too.

I have primarily worked with dementia patients and have come to understand how different each person is. Dementia is a term for a wide variety of symptoms and diseases, the most common being Alzheimer’s.

Working with patients living with dementia has been challenging at times, it takes patience, compassion, and so many more qualities to look after them effectively. I’ve learnt that it is important to make them feel safe and respected. This experience has also come from working in a care home for the past year!
